Inventory labels with security slits: protection against tampering
When taking stock of IT equipment, machinery or high-value office furniture, it is not just a matter of recording inventory – it is also about proving that an item has not been stolen or swapped. Inventory labels with security slits make any attempt at tampering immediately visible.
What is a security tear?
Labels with security perforations (also known as VOID labels) are made from a special material that self-destructs when removed. If anyone attempts to remove the label, it breaks into small pieces or leaves a clear “VOID” mark on the surface. The label cannot be removed undamaged and reused.
When is a security perforation useful?
- IT equipment: laptops, monitors, servers – high-value devices that can easily be stolen. The security perforation prevents anyone from discreetly removing an inventory label or transferring it to another device
- Leased equipment: Clear allocation to the lease agreement must be guaranteed
- Testing equipment and measuring instruments: Devices whose identity must be secured for calibration and traceability
- Vehicle fleet and tools: Mobile items that frequently change location
Comparison of materials
| Asset | Characteristic | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Matt silver polyester | Destroys upon attempt to peel off, high adhesion | Standard inventory |
| High-gloss white polyester | More elegant appearance, same security | Visible areas (reception, meeting rooms) |
| VOID film | Leaves a "VOID" mark on the surface | Maximum protection against tampering |
Tips for application
- The surface must be clean, dry and free of grease
- Choose smooth, flat areas – do not stick to ventilation slots or textured surfaces
- Press down firmly after application and allow to cure for 24 hours before full adhesive strength is achieved
- Do not stick to surfaces that are regularly cleaned with solvents
