What is an FNSKU?

FNSKU stands for Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit. It is a barcode issued by Amazon that uniquely links your product to your seller account. Unlike an EAN or UPC code, which multiple retailers use for the same product, the FNSKU is unique to you as a seller.

Amazon’s requirements for FNSKU labels

Amazon has clear requirements for labelling:

• Size: 52 x 25 mm (approx. 2 x 1 inch) or similar dimensions is recommended
• Barcode type: Code 128 is the standard for FNSKU barcodes
• Legibility: The barcode must be clearly printed and readable by Amazon’s scanners without error
• Position: The FNSKU must completely cover the manufacturer’s existing EAN/UPC code or be placed in a location where there are no other barcodes nearby
• Product name: The product title or a short description should appear below the barcode

Avoiding common mistakes

• Manufacturer’s barcode not covered: If the EAN remains visible, Amazon may assign the product to another seller (known as ‘commingling’)
• Poor print quality: Smudged or undersized barcodes lead to problems during goods receipt
• Wrong label on the wrong product: Every ASIN has its own FNSKU – mix-ups can lead to returns and negative reviews
